NBCSN’s Hockey Happy Hour: Richards propels Rangers past Penguins in 2014

This week’s Hockey Happy Hour on NBCSN (5-7 p.m. ET) will feature memorable “on this date” games in playoff history.

The Rangers and Penguins clashed in a Game 7 duel that resulted in a 2-1 hard-fought New York win. Brad Richards’ game and series clinching goal propelled New York to the Eastern Conference Final. For the first time in franchise history, the Rangers overcame a 3–1 game deficit to win a seven-game series.

Mike Emrick and Pierre McGuire called Game 7 from Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

During the broadcast, Liam McHugh remembers a pair of thrilling Game 7 overtime contests that occurred on May 13 in 2013 (Maple Leafs vs. Bruins, Round 1) and 2015 (Capitals vs. Rangers, Round 2).

NBC Sports’ Kathryn Tappen will co-host a 30-minute program that features interviews with three sets of NHL players and their mothers. The three mother and son relationships featured in the program are:

• Ryan (Rangers), Dylan (Blackhawks) and Matthew Strome (Flyers prospect) and mother, Trish
• Quinn (Canucks) and Jack Hughes (Devils) and mother, Ellen
• David Ayres (Hurricanes emergency goalie) and mother, Mary

NHL PLAYER GAMING CHALLENGE – THURS. 5 P.M. ET, NBCSN
NBCSN will present the NHL Player Gaming Challenge between Chicago vs. Los Angeles. The competition features Alex DeBrincat and Drake Caggiula representing the Blackhawks against Blake Lizotte and Michael Amadio of the Kings. The month-long initiative will pit NHL players from all 31 clubs facing off against each other in EA Sports NHL 20.

Following the hour-long broadcast, a matchup between Anthony Mantha and Madison Bowey of the Red Wings and Jordan Greenway and Devan Dubnyk of the Wild will be available on NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app and the NBC Sports YouTube channel.

NBCSN’s Hockey Happy Hour: Niederreiter caps Wild Game 7 comeback vs. Avs

This week’s Hockey Happy Hour on NBCSN will again feature memorable “on this date” games in NHL playoff history.

Six years ago, Minnesota rallied to tie Colorado at four goals apiece in the third period. On the road, the Wild prevailed in overtime 5-4 on a game winning goal by Nino Niederreiter to advance to Round 2 to face the Blackhawks.

John Forslund and Daryl Reaugh had the call from Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.

During the broadcast, Anson Carter will look back at his double overtime game winning goal, assisted by Joe Thornton and Ray Bourque, that led the Bruins over the Hurricanes in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on April 30, 1999.

The competition kicks off on Thursday with Matthew Tkachuk and Noah Hanifin representing the Flames against Brady Tkachuk of the Senators.

NBCSN’s Hockey Happy Hour: Blue Jackets grab first ever home playoff win

This week’s Hockey Happy Hour on NBCSN (5-7 p.m. ET) will feature memorable “on this date” games in playoff history.

Six years to the day, Columbus recorded their first home playoff victory in franchise history in Game 4 of the series. The Blue Jackets overcame a three-goal deficit to force overtime, with the tying goal coming in the final minute of play. Nick Foligno netted the game-winner that gave Columbus a 4-3 win.

Kenny Albert and Pierre McGuire had the call from Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

NBCSN’s Hockey Happy Hour: Martinez clinches Cup for Kings

NBC Sports’ Hockey Happy Hour continues this week with matchups featuring unsung heroes.

In a role similar to one he played in the 2014 Western Conference Final victory over the Blackhawks, Alec Martinez of the Kings played hero for Los Angeles in Game 5 of the Cup Final, scoring the game-winner in double overtime to defeat the Rangers 3-2 and clinch the Cup.

Doc Emrick, Eddie Olczyk, and Pierre McGuire called the Stanley Cup action from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Thursday, April 9

• Rangers vs. Kings (2014 Stanley Cup Final, Game 5, Alec Martinez) – 6 p.m. ET

Game 7 OT thrillers on NBCSN: Martinez sends Kings to 2014 Cup Final

Hockey Week in America continues Sunday with Game 7 overtime thrillers.

In a back-and-forth affair, the Kings tied the Game 7 at four goals apiece in the third period to send the matchup into overtime. With a trip to the Stanley Cup Final on the line, Alec Martinez played hero for the Kings with the game-winner early in overtime, a role he would reprise in Game 5 of the Cup Final against the Rangers to clinch the title for the Kings.

Kenny Albert, Joe Micheletti, and Brian Engblom called the matchup from United Center in Chicago, Ill.
