Video: Prout, Simmonds drop the gloves as things get chippy between Flyers, Devils

Saturday’s game between the Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils took a nasty turn in the second period.

Dalton Prout and Wayne Simmonds dropped the gloves in a wild fight after Prout, the Devils defenseman, retaliated against Radko Gudas in the neutral zone, resulting in the melee.

-- Prout was given a major for fighting, a major for interference for his retaliation against Gudas and a game misconduct.

-- Simmonds was given a major for fighting.

-- Gudas, who threw the initial hit at the blue line but didn’t receive a penalty, was hurt on the play. He did return in the middle period but wasn’t on the bench for the beginning of the third period.

There was another skirmish just 19 seconds later, as Dale Weise rocked Kyle Palmieri with a late hit along the boards near the Devils bench.

Weise was given a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct. He was eventually grabbed by Travis Zajac, as members from both teams met once again after the whistle.
