Flyers’ Neuvirth collapses, taken off ice on stretcher (Updated)

There was a frightening incident involving Philadelphia Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirth during the first period of Saturday’s game versus the New Jersey Devils.

From NHL.com:

Philadelphia Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirth was taken from the ice on a stretcher 7:37 into the first period against the New Jersey Devils after collapsing during a stoppage in play.

With the teams setting up for a neutral-zone faceoff, Neuvirth fell to his back in his crease. He was tended to by medical personnel. He was conscious and moving before leaving the ice after a delay of about 10 minutes.

Neuvirth was replaced by Anthony Stolarz, who was recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League on Saturday to replace Steve Mason, who was unavailable to play.

Updated: The Flyers have announced that Neuvirth is “awake and alert” and is being taken to hospital.
