Another day, another injury for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Coach Mike Sullivan announced on Saturday afternoon that forward Chris Kunitz is going to be sidelined with a lower body injury that he apparently suffered during the team’s 4-3 shootout win over the New York Rangers on Friday night.
According to Sullivan, there is no immediate timetable for his return.
The injury situation in Pittsburgh has been pretty ridiculous for a few weeks now, and even though they were able to get Jake Guentzel and Ron Hainsey back this week (and avoided a scare with Conor Sheary earlier in the week), the list of sidelined players is still an impressive one.
The Penguins have five games remaining on their regular season schedule this week. They host the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday evening.
Kunitz has nine goals and 20 assists in 71 games this season, but has been mired in a lengthy scoring slump in recent weeks that has seen him score just one goal and three assists in his past 24 games.
