The Calgary Flames will be without Micheal Ferland tonight when they face the L.A. Kings.

The Flames announced Sunday that Ferland is now under observation for the mumps, a disease which has affected members of the Canucks and Wild this season, following an outbreak during the 2014-15 campaign.

The 24-year-old Ferland, known more for his abrasive physical style, is having a career year offensively with the Flames, setting new personal bests for goals (14) and points (21) in a single season.

With a win today, the Flames can move ahead of Edmonton and back into third in the Pacific Division. Meanwhile, the Kings are six points back of Nashville for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.

With Ferland out, it appears Curtis Lazar could make his Flames debut tonight, after being acquired from Ottawa at the trade deadline.
