The NHL suspended Pittsburgh Penguins forward Tom Sestito four games for boarding Winnipeg Jets defenseman Toby Enstrom.

The league notes that Sestito will “forfeit” $12,777.76 after making his first NHL appearance since November. This is the second time he’s been suspended in his 150-game NHL career, and as the video at the bottom notes, it was for a similar infraction.

The Department of Player Safety notes that, while Enstrom turned his back to Sestito, it wasn’t an “open invitation” to make a hit. Sestito is charged with not avoiding or at least limiting the severity of the check considering the circumstances.

Enstrom’s injury and Sestito’s history factor into the four-game suspension.

After Wednesday’s game, Jets coach Paul Maurice had some pointed comments toward the Penguins’ decision to call up Sestito. We’ll see if the team has anything to say about the league’s decision, though it’s probable that they’re unhappy about the situation, either way.
