Busy Thursday in D.C.
Shortly after signing ’16 first-rounder Lucas Johansen, the Caps announced they’ve inked Alaska-Anchorage forward Mason Mitchell to a two-year, entry-level deal.
Mitchell, 22, just wrapped his sophomore campaign for the Seawolves, leading the team in goals (12) while finishing fourth in points. That came after a freshman campaign in which he scored 12 points in 19 games, and was named the team’s rookie of the year.
Several NCAA teams are coming to the end of their respective campaigns, which means NHL clubs will start looking at signing undrafted free agents like Mitchell.
