Connor McDavid claimed the Fastest Skater at the NHL All-Star Skills Competition, but just missed out on Dylan Larkin's all-time record.

Connor McDavid came oh-so-close to Dylan Larkin’s record in the fastest skater event at the NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday.

Known for his blazing speed, among many other elite hockey qualities he possesses, McDavid entered this competition as a favourite to perhaps break Larkin’s record of 13.172 seconds set at last year’s event.

The Edmonton Oilers 20-year-old phenom flew around the ice at Staples Center but just missed out on the record, posting a time of 13.310 seconds. McDavid also took his lap from a standing start.

Larkin’s performance set the new benchmark in this event, breaking Mike Gartner’s previous record (13.38 seconds) from the 1996 All-Star event in Boston.
