Even before his 37-goal performance a season ago, Brad Marchand has always been an extremely productive player for the Boston Bruins.
One area of his game where he has always excelled has been on the penalty kill, not only when it comes to shutting down opposing power plays, but also in generating offense for his own team when they are down a man.
He scored yet another shorthanded goal on Saturday, already the 21st of his career, when he forced a turnover at the blue line and raced in on net to score a game-tying goal.
What stands out about this shorthanded goal is he scored it without actually having to shoot the puck.
As Marchand was skating in alone, Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov was attempting to lift Marchand’s stick and strip him of the puck. He ended up doing exactly that. As Marchand lost control of the puck it slowly slid through Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirth for the game-tying goal.
Another shorty for @Bmarch63. Didn't even need to shoot the puck. https://t.co/2BGSzndnI5

That is Marchand’s 21st shorthanded goal since he entered the NHL during the 2009-10 season.
No player in the league has more scored more than 17 during that stretch.
