Jeff Carter’s terrific season continues in win over Sharks

The Kings rallied from a disallowed goal to tie the Sharks in the third period and force sudden death overtime where L.A.'s Tanner Pearson scored the GWG in seconds.

Jeff Carter has been one the constant for the Los Angeles Kings this season.

He was the difference for them once again on Tuesday night when he helped lift them to a second consecutive win over the San Jose Sharks with his 21st goal of the season and an assist on Tanner Pearson’s overtime winner.

With the Kings trailing by a goal just three minutes into the third period, Carter redirected a Jake Muzzin shot behind Sharks goalie Martin Jones to tie the game to help send it to overtime. That goal also allowed Carter to remain in sole possession of second place in the NHL goal scoring race behind Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby. He is currently five goals behind him.

He is also now only three goals away from matching his total from the 2015-16 season and in 39 fewer games.

His 21 goals represent nearly a quarter (22 percent!) of the Kings goal total for the season and he is one of only two players on the roster that has reached double digits this season (Pearson’s overtime winner was his 10th of the season).

He has been an especially big part of the offense over the past seven games with nine total points (seven goals, two assists), a stretch where the Kings as a team have scored only 15 total goals.

These past two wins over the Sharks have helped the Kings gain three points on San Jose in the Pacific Division standings, but they remain six points behind them.

The two teams meet one more time this season when they face off in Los Angeles in a couple of weeks.
