P.K. Subban will not face his old team, the Montreal Canadiens, on Tuesday.
That highly anticipated meeting had been in doubt for a while now, with Subban dealing with an upper-body injury and out of the lineup since Dec. 15. He’ll remain out for another couple of weeks -- at least.
The Predators on Sunday placed the dynamic defenseman on injured reserve. He’ll be re-evaluated in “approximately” two to three weeks, the club announced. That’s a significant loss for Nashville, which is two points out of the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
There has been increasing speculation about the specific nature of the injury, and possible options of dealing with it.
There have been rumblings that Subban is dealing with a herniated disc, and on Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported that the Predators, team doctors, and Subban were expected to meet Sunday to discuss a plan, with surgery as a possible option.
“I know there’s been a lot of talk about what’s going on and everybody’s making their assumptions, but I’m used to that, obviously, playing in a different city for a number of years and hearing media kind of take things and run,” Subban told 104.5-FM earlier in the week.
“But every day I’m just putting in the work that I need to to get better.”
