With three career NHL games under his belt, Jared Coreau will start in goal for the Detroit Red Wings in the Centennial Classic on Sunday, per Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

After a tough outing in his debut against the Pittsburgh Penguins in early December, Coreau settled in for wins against Florida before the holiday break and Ottawa after the time off.

“It’s a big opportunity, not just to earn more playing time, but not many players get to experience games like this in their career. Steve Ott was saying this morning at breakfast, being in Dallas, he never got an opportunity to do one and now he does and he’s really excited. It’s pretty special,” said Coreau of playing an outdoor game.

Meanwhile, it looks like Frederik Andersen gets the start in net for Toronto.
