The L.A. Kings won’t have Tyler Toffoli (lower-body injury) in their lineup Wednesday, when they play the Vancouver Canucks.

No surprise given head coach Darryl Sutter said coming out of the holiday break that Toffoli would be re-evaluated in the new year. Hours before their Pacific Division clash in Vancouver, the Kings placed the talented forward on injured reserve.

While the loss of Toffoli is significant for the Kings, as they hold onto a Wild Card spot in the West, they could soon get defenseman Brayden McNabb, out since Oct. 29, back into their lineup, per L.A. Kings Insider.

Here’s more:

McNabb isn’t expected to be activated or play tonight, but his return is coming in the very foreseeable future. The team will also have to decide whether it wants to keep eight defenseman active – Sutter implied earlier this year that he didn’t mind having eight available defensemen – or whether it would want to make a transaction to recall a forward from AHL-Ontario.

In 32 games this season, Toffoli has eight goals and 20 points.
