The Chicago Blackhawks were on the losing end of a 4-3 decision to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night, putting an end to what had been a five-game winning streak. But they did get a little bit of good news after the game when it was announced starting goalie Corey Crawford has been activated from injured reserve.

The Blackhawks also sent goalie Lars Johansson back to Rockford of the American Hockey League to go along with that move.

Crawford has been sidelined for nearly three weeks following an appendectomy in Philadelphia just before the start of their game against the Flyers. The situation forced them to sign an emergency backup goalie for the game. Backup Scott Darling received the bulk of the playing time in his absence and played well enough to help the team go on a 6-2-1 run in the nine games that Crawford missed.

It is expected that Crawford will return to the starting lineup on Friday when the Blackhawks host the Colorado Avalanche.

In 20 starts this season Crawford has a 12-6-2 record to go with a .927 save percentage.

In other injury news for the Blackhawks, forward Marian Hossa, the team’s leading goal scorer this season with 16 (good enough to be tied for fourth in the entire NHL), had to leave Tuesday’s game with an upper body injury and did not return.

Coach Joel Quenneville said after the game that Hossa is currently day-to-day and should be considered questionable for their game on Friday against the Avalanche.
