Report: Hammond left game versus Islanders after twisting his ankle

The Ottawa Senators had five different scorers Sunday against the lowly New York Islanders, as they earned a 6-2 win.

But there is concern for the goaltending position in Ottawa after Andrew Hammond, who started Sunday, left the game in the first period after he fell awkwardly in the crease while trying to get back into position.

Mike Condon entered the game, and Hammond eventually returned to the bench to serve as the back-up for the duration.

Early word is Hammond twisted his ankle, per Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia. A decision on whether the Senators have to recall another goalie from the AHL hasn’t been determined.

The Senators, second in the Atlantic Division with back to back wins this weekend, play the Chicago Blackhawks, winners of five straight, on Tuesday.
