Darren Helm, the speedy Detroit forward that’s been out a month with a dislocated shoulder, returned to practice on Thursday in the hopes of getting back into game action later this month.
Per MLive, Helm said he hopes to be back by Christmas, potentially New Year’s.
The injury occurred on Nov. 15, so the 29-year-old is right on target for his diagnosed six-week recovery window. Helm has already missed 13 games.
Getting him back in the lineup will be a fairly significant boost for the Red Wings. At the time of his injury Helm had seven points through 11 games, and was sitting tied for second on the team in goals.
He was also averaging over 15 minutes a night, and head coach Jeff Blashill used him in a number of different situations.
