It’s been a while since we heard from the NHL department of player safety, but Sunday was a busy day with a pair of hearings for incidents that took place during Saturday’s action.
We now know the result of one of those disciplinary hearings.
The department of player safety announced on Sunday afternoon that Ottawa Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki has been suspended two games for boarding Los Angeles Kings forward Tyler Toffoli on Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened early in the first period of the Kings’ 4-1 win and resulted in Borowiecki receiving a five-minute major for boarding.
The Kings scored two goals on the ensuing power play.
Here is the play again, as well as the explanation for the suspension.
Borowiecki will miss Sunday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks and Wednesday’s game at home against the San Jose Sharks.
He will be eligible to return to the lineup next Saturday against the New Jersey Devils.
In 28 games this season Borowiecki has zero goals, one assist and 54 penalty minutes. Ten of those penalty minutes game on Saturday -- five for boarding, and then five for fighting almost as soon as he came out of the penalty box.
