The Montreal Canadiens announced on Saturday morning that rookie forward Charles Hudon is going to be sidelined indefinitely with a fractured sternum.

Hudon played 10 minutes in the Canadiens’ 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. He was injured the following day in practice when he was hit in the chest by a puck.

A fifth-round pick by the Canadiens back in 2012, Hudon has been one of the Canadiens’ most productive prospects at the AHL level for the past three years, finishing second on the team in scoring in each of the past two full seasons. He had 14 points in 15 games this season for the St. John’s IceCaps.

He seemed to be finally getting a chance to make an impact in the NHL this season before this injury knocked him out of the lineup.

Before the injury he had recorded two assists in three games this season.

With Hudon out of the lineup it appears that Artturi Lehkonen, returning from an injury of his own, will be back in the lineup on Saturday night when the team visits the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.
