Another day, another win for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Blue Jackets extended their winning streak to four games on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals. The win not only keeps their current winning streak going, but it also improved their record to 10-4-2 on the season and helped them continue what has been the best start in franchise history.
A late high-sticking penalty by Nicklas Backstrom gave Columbus a power play with less than two minutes to play in regulation.
The Blue Jackets took advantage when Alex Wennberg scored his third goal of the season.
It was a pretty spectacular play, too, as he finished a perfect tic-tac-toe passing play that left Braden Holtby pretty much helpless.
It’s not just the the fact they are winning right now that is impressive. It’s the fact that they once again beat another of the NHL’s top teams.
Since Oct. 28 Columbus has beaten Anaheim twice, Washington twice, St. Louis, Montreal, Dallas and the New York Rangers.
Their plus-17 goal differential is also currently the third best in the Eastern Conference.
After a 2015-16 season where they finished with the fourth worst record in the league this has to be one of the biggest surprises
