The Washington Capitals had been one of the healthiest teams in the NHL entering their game against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night.
That started to change in the first period when they began losing players all over their lineup.
Three of them to be exact.
Making matters worse, Andre Burakovsky was also injured in the first period and his return is considered to be doubtful.
Eller exited the game after taking one shift (it lasted 45 seconds) and did not return. Oshie exited the game after he appeared to injure himself on a check against Riley Sheahan.
Burakovsky was the last player to exit the game when he went to the locker room with less than three minutes to play in the period.
This of course means the Capitals will have to finish Friday’s game with only three forward lines, which is obviously less than ideal.
Incredibly the Capitals nearly lost a fourth forward on Friday night when Tom Wilson had to briefly leave the game after he was boarded by Danny DeKeyser on a play that resulted in a five-minute major penalty.
Wilson eventually returned to the game.
