They were embarrassed in the third period of Friday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. On Saturday, the Philadelphia Flyers responded.
Brayden Schenn scored the winning goal in the third period, as the Flyers defeated the Minnesota Wild by a final score of 3-2.
“Obviously we weren’t happy with a terrible third period (Friday) night and a God-awful way to end the hockey game for us,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol told the Courier-Post.
“But I think we put that into the past and just gotta come out and do what you can tonight to win a hockey game and we did that.”
The bigger story -- and this is nothing new these days for the Flyers -- is with their goaltending situation. Michal Neuvirth started Saturday, but left the game following the first period after suffering an apparent injury.

Steve Mason, who had a difficult outing in Toronto the previous night, took over in net and played well versus the Wild. He stopped 19 of 20 shots, which must certainly be a confidence booster after the way the Flyers fell apart in the final 20 minutes versus Toronto.
According to the Flyers, general manager Ron Hextall said Neuvirth will be re-evaluated on Sunday.
If he is out for an extended period, the Flyers will likely recall Anthony Stolarz from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Stolarz was in net Saturday night as the Phantoms faced off against the Toronto Marlies.
