During all of the craziness that unfolded late in the third period of Saturday’s Vancouver-Toronto game, Canucks goalie Ryan Miller was assessed two game misconduct penalties for his role in a line brawl when he left his crease to go after Matt Martin. That was in response to Martin going after Canucks rookie defenseman Troy Stecher.
Because Miller was given two game misconducts in the same game he was facing a minimum two-game suspension according to league rules.
Fortunately for Miller and the Canucks, it seems he is going to be able to avoid that suspension.
According to Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province, the league has rescinded one of those two game misconducts.
For all of the incidents that took place in that game and all of the penalty minutes that were assessed, that seems to be where everything is going to end from a discipline standpoint, at least as far as it relates to possible suspensions.
The NHL’s department of player safety also decided on Sunday that Toronto’s Nazem Kadri will not be suspended for his hit on Daniel Sedin that helped send the game into chaos.
The Canucks, predictably, did not agree with that decision by the league.
Miller has a .915 save percentage for the Canucks this season. After Saturday the Canucks have now lost eight games in a row after starting the season 4-0.
