Rivalry night brings us the two franchises that faced off in the 1997 Stanley Cup Final, a series the Red Wings won in a clean sweep to end what was at the time a 40-year Stanley Cup drought.
On Wednesday in Philadelphia, the Red Wings are looking to end a different kind of drought when they try to snap an 11-game regular season losing streak in Philadelphia.
You have to go all the way back to Jan. 25, 1997, to find the last time the Red Wings won a regular season game in the city.
They are also looking to snap out of the current two-game losing streak they carry into the game on Wednesday.
The Flyers come into the game looking to find a way to limit somebody offensively having given up at least three goals in nine of their first 10 games. Almost every game they have played this season has been a back-and-forth, high-scoring contest as the team currently ranks second in the league in goals scored and 29th in the league in goals against. If nothing else, they have not been boring.
