If the Detroit Red Wings are going to extend their winning streak to seven games on Saturday night against the Boston Bruins they are going to have to do it once again without the services of forward Thomas Vanek.

Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said on Saturday morning that Vanek will miss another game and is still considered day-to-day. He also missed the Red Wings’ game on Thursday against the St. Louis Blues due to a lower body injury.

Before the injury Vanek had been off to an incredible start with the Red Wings with four goals and four assists in his first seven games.

After being one of the most productive forwards in the league for the better part of his career Vanek’s production seemed to stall over the past couple of years in Minnesota, which allowed the Red Wings to get him on a one-year deal for just $2.6 million against the cap. It’s still very early in the season, and he is riding a shooting percentage at the moment that is north of 30 percent, but he has already proven to be a pretty strong signing for the Red Wings.

After starting the season 0-2, the Red Wings have won six in a row heading into Saturday night.
