The Ottawa Senators are now down to their third and fourth string goaltenders.
After regular starter Craig Anderson had to leave the team to attend to a personal matter this week, the team then lost backup Andrew Hammond on Friday night to a lower body injury against the Calgary Flames.
It is apparently bad enough to keep him out of the lineup on Sunday in Edmonton, forcing the team to recall goalie Matt O’Connor from Binghamton of the AHL.
O’Connor is expected to join the team on Saturday. The Senators are in Edmonton to play the Oilers on Sunday night.
With Anderson and Hammond out for the time being, that means the Senators are now down to O’connor and Chris Driedger, their No. 3 and 4 goalies.
In three appearances for Binghamton this season O’Connor has a .919 save percentage. He appeared in one game for the Senators a year ago, allowing three goals on 31 shots.
