After being a healthy scratch in the Arizona Coyotes’ season opening win over the Philadelphia Flyers, Dylan Strome, the team’s top prospect and the third overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft, will make his debut tonight when the Coyotes visit the Ottawa Senators.
He will be taking the place of fellow rookie Christian Dvorak as the Coyotes seem to be rotating their young players in and out of the lineup early in the season. Dvorak played 16 minutes and had an assist in the Coyotes’ win over the Flyers over the weekend.
Defenseman Jakob Chychrun, the No. 16 overall pick this past June, will also be scratched on Tuesday night as Kevin Connauton takes his place.
For as good as that duo has been, Strome might be the best prospect out of the bunch after dominating the Ontario Hockey League. Over the past two years he recorded 240 points (82 goals, 158 assists) in 124 games for the Erie Otters.
The Coyotes probably aren’t considered a favorite to make the playoffs this season, but their young talent definitely makes them a team worth watching as they continue to build a strong foundation.
