Crosby’s progress has been ‘encouraging,’ but he’s still day-to-day

Sidney Crosby, who didn’t play in the regular season opener against Washington, skated on his own before his teammates practiced on Saturday.

It’s the fifth day in a row that he’s hit the ice by himself.

Crosby suffered a concussion during a Pens practice and is currently day-to-day. He won’t suit up in tonight’s game against the Anaheim Ducks, but head coach Mike Sullivan is encouraged by his captain’s progress.

“I think Sid finds he gets more out of those types of workouts, as opposed to joining the group sometimes and being in a non-contact situation where he’s on the sidelines,” Sullivan said, per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “He tends to get better workouts when we create those types of environments, where he has an opportunity to work on his skills and we can control his heart rate and things like that.”
There’s still no official timetable for his return.
