Before they begin their defense of the Stanley Cup, the Pittsburgh Penguins had one more chance to look back at what they accomplished during the 2015-16 season on Thursday night.
Before their season opening game against the Washington Capitals, the Penguins raised their fourth Stanley Cup banner to the rafters of the PPG Paints arena during a pre-game ceremony.
Before the banner raising took place the Penguins roster was introduced, ending with team captain Sidney Crosby, currently sidelined with a concussion, carrying the Stanley Cup out to center ice.
The Penguins won the Cup by defeating the San Jose Sharks in six games, capping off a postseason run that saw them eliminate the New York Rangers, Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning along the way. It is the second Stanley Cup the Penguins have won during the Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin era.
