Laine’s first NHL goal helps Jets rally past Hurricanes

After Auston Matthews and Jesse Puljujarvi, two of the top-four picks in the 2016 draft, made their NHL debuts on Wednesday and combined to score five goals Winnipeg Jets rookie Patrik Laine, the No. 2 pick, had to be feeling some pressure to do something spectacular in his debut.

He did.

Laine scored his first NHL goal in the third period as part of a massive comeback that saw the Jets erase a three-goal deficit on their way to a 5-4 overtime win.

Here is a look at Laine’s goal, which come on a rocket of a shot on the power play, to cut the deficit to one with just under seven minutes to play.

A few minutes later Laine assisted on Mathieu Perrault’s goal that sent the game to overtime.

Once in overtime Mark Scheifele scored his first of the season to win it.
