Trade: Habs, Panthers swap Bozon for Racine

Two Atlantic Division teams hooked up on a minor league trade on Saturday afternoon, as the Montreal Canadiens sent forward Tim Bozon to the Florida Panthers for Jonathan Racine.

Racine is a 6-foot-2, 202 pound defenseman, who the Panthers selected in the third round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He’s played just one NHL game since turning pro in 2013.

The 23-year-old is from Montreal and played his junior hockey with the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes and Moncton Wild Cats.

Fun fact: He picked up a penalty on his first NHL shift, after he flattened Cal Clutterbuck (top).

The Habs selected Bozon in the third round of the 2012 draft, but he’s yet to play in an NHL contest yet.

The 22-year-old had a scare a couple of years ago, as he developed meningitis, while playing for the Kootenay Ice of the WHL. Bozon spent almost two weeks in a medically-induced coma, but was able to hit the ice just months later.

He spent most of last season with the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps and he also had a stint with the ECHL’s Brampton Beast.
