After going through most of July without being signed by an NHL team, veteran forward Mike Santorelli signed a two-year contract with Swiss league team Geneve-Servette. In six games with the team he was off to a promising start, recording a goal and four assists.

That seems to be where his career will come to an end.

Santorelli announced on Monday, via the Swiss Hockey News, that he will be retiring from pro hockey due to injury. Geneve-Servette accepted his decision and released him from his two-year contract.

Originally drafted by the Nashville Predators in the sixth round of the 2004 draft, Santorelli played in 406 games in the NHL with six different teams over eight years. Along with the Predators, he also spent time with the Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs. He scored 64 goals in his career, including a career high 20 goals during the 2010-11 season with the Panthers.

During the 2014-15 season the Maple Leafs traded him and Cody Franson back to Nashville for a first-round draft pick.

He then signed with the Anaheim Ducks in free agency and spent the 2015-16 season with the team, scoring nine goals and adding nine assists in 70 games.
