The Minnesota Wild have reportedly signed Ryan Carter to a PTO and they could be looking to add another forward or two before the start of camp.
Carter scored seven goals and 12 points in 60 games with Minnesota last season.
The Wild have 10 forwards on one-way contracts, which could become problematic if injuries strike during the season.
“I’ve let Chuck know how I feel about it,” head coach Bruce Boudreau said, per the Star Tribune.
“I don’t want to go [into games] not being able to play the fourth line,” Boudreau said. “I want to make sure [the roster hopefuls] are NHL-ready.”
Some other PTO options include former Wild players Justin Fontaine and Chris Porter. Outside options like Lauri Korpikoski, R.J. Umberger, David Legwand, Eric Nystrom and Travis Moen are also available.
But before the Wild add more forwards, they want to see what the in-house options look like.
“Before we sign anybody, I think we’d like to have a better idea of what we have internally,” general manager Chuck Fletcher said. “There are a lot of guys that either have played or on the cusp of playing, so I think we want to be careful we don’t box guys out.”
