The San Jose Sharks agreed to terms with their only remaining restricted free agent this summer by re-signing forward Matt Nieto to a one-year contract on Saturday afternoon.
According to TVA’s Renaud Lavoie the contract is a one-year deal that will pay the 23-year-old forward $735,000.

Nieto, a second-round pick by the Sharks in 2011, appeared in 67 regular season games for the Sharks this past season, scoring eight goals to go with nine assists. He also played in 16 playoffs where added one goal and two assists. His lone postseason goal came in the Sharks’ first-round series clinching win against the Los Angeles Kings.
With Nieto’s deal now complete, the Sharks’ roster for the 2016-17 is looking to be mostly set. It is going to look very similar to the one that reached the Stanley Cup Final this past season.
Earlier this summer the Sharks re-signed their other big restricted free agent, forward Tomas Hertl, to a two-year contract that will pay him a total of $6 million. The Sharks also went outside of the organization to strengthen their lineup this summer by adding free agent forward Mikkel Boedker to a four-year, $16 million contract.
With all of those moves the Sharks now have around $1 million in salary cap space, via General Fanager, with 22 players under contract.
