Veteran forward Rich Clune will be back the Leafs organization next year.

On Monday, Toronto’s AHL affiliate -- the Marlies -- announced they’ve signed Clune to a one-year deal.

Clune, 29, first signed with the Marlies last offseason, which eventually paved the way for him inking an NHL contract with the Leafs in late October. He then proceeded to appear in 19 games for the Buds, scoring four points.

The majority of Clune’s time was spent in the American League, where he acquitted himself reasonably well. He had eight goals and 24 points in 49 regular season contests, then three in 15 Calder Cup playoff games.

Based on how things went this year, it’s possible Clune could earn another contract with the parent club next season -- though his noted physicality (11 fights between the NHL and AHL) might not be as in-demand.

The Leafs added burly power forward Matt Martin in free agency, he of the NHL-leading 363 hits last season (to go along with 11 fights of his own).
