After being bounced in the first round by the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Detroit Red Wings are looking to make significant improvements to their roster. It’s no secret that they’ll take a run at Steven Stamkos in the coming days and it also sounds like they’ve tried to upgrade on the blueline as well.
Of course, the Wings won’t want to part with Larkin. The 19-year-old scored 23 goals and 45 points in 80 games during his rookie season. He’ll be a huge part of the team’s future.
The Blues appear to be dead set on hitting a home run with any trade involving Shattenkirk. It’s believed that they also asked the Boston Bruins for multiple first round picks AND forward David Pastrnak in a deal involving their defenseman.
Shattenkirk is a talented puck-moving defenseman, but the problem is that he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season. Giving up the moon for a player you might only have for one year doesn’t make much sense for any team.
The 27-year-old clearly has good value on the market, but the Blues might have to drop their asking price if they hope to get a deal done in the near future.
