The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly closing in on a one-year extension with forward Zack Kassian, according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie.

Update: It’s done.

Kassian was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens for Ben Scrivens on Dec. 28, 2015. He picked up three goals and eight points in 36 games with Edmonton.

Staying with the Oilers will give Kassian some stability. The 25-year-old has been on three teams in the last year. That’s partially his own fault, as he fell out of favor in Montreal because of an early-morning car accident prior to the start of the season. As a result, Kassian was placed in Stage Two of the Substance Abuse and Behavioral Program of the NHL and NHLPA. Shortly after he completed the program, the Canadiens shipped Kassian to the Oilers.
