Tyler Seguin ‘never felt anything’ like the calf injury he suffered in the playoffs

Tyler Seguin would like to forget the end of his 2015-16 season. It started with a small cut of his left Achilles on Mar. 19 and ended with a calf injury he picked up in his first game back on Apr. 16.

Seguin had missed the final 10 games of the regular season and one playoff game when he finally came back for Game 2 of Dallas’ opening round series against Minnesota. Unfortunately for him, his return didn’t last very long.

“It was terrible,” Seguin said of his calf injury, per the Dallas Morning News. “Honestly, I didn’t really tell Lindy about it at the time. I hadn’t been in the lineup, so I kind of kept it to myself and told (head trainer) Dave (Zeis) but not really Lindy. I’ve never felt anything like that.”

Without Seguin, the Stars pushed the Blues to the limit, but they eventually ran out of steam in Game 7 of their second round series. How far could they have gone with him healthy? We’ll never know.

The Stars initially said that Seguin’s “new” injury wasn’t related to his Achilles injury. Now, they’re changing their tune.

“It’s a tough one to explain. It’s related, it’s a calf injury that he suffered,” coach Lindy Ruff said. “I guess it’s related to the Achilles, maybe one area compensating for the other, but even with the two extra skates I thought he looked dynamic in practice the next couple of days and it’s unfortunate what happened. He was medically cleared well before we even played him, but that’s just stuff that happens.”

The 24-year-old will now have a few months to recover before the start of training camp in September.
