Video: Reto Berra gives up ugly goal from other team’s blue line at World Championships

Nothing gets people together like a classic matchup between Switzerland and Kazakhstan at the World Hockey Championships...OK maybe not, but something memorable definitely came out of this one.

Avalanche goaltender Reto Berra was between the pipes for Switzerland and he let in a goal from way, way, way out. Kazakhstan’s Roman Savchenko fired a puck at Berra from his own blue line. He was just trying to kill off his team’s penalty, but managed to find the back of the net instead.

It’s a good thing Berra didn’t allow the goal while playing for the Avalanche, or he probably would’ve been called out by head coach Patrick Roy.

Kazakhstan went on to win the game 2-1 in a shootout.
