Flyers ‘hope Mr. Snider is proud’ of their effort

The Philadelphia Flyers could have closed up shop when they were down 3-0 to the best team in the league, but they didn’t quit. A goaltending change and some timely scoring helped them make the series interesting.

It’s been an emotional month for the entire organization. They were involved in a heavy playoff race that saw them clinch a playoff spot on the final weekend of the regular season, they lost owner Ed Snider on Apr. 11, and now their season has come to an end.

Through the ups and downs, Flyers coach Dave Hakstol hopes his team performed up to their old boss’ standards.

“I hope Mr. Snider is proud,” Hakstol said after his team was eliminated, per Philly.com.

Despite their first-round elimination, the Flyers showed that they can compete with the very best teams in the Eastern Conference. That’s something to be proud, especially because no one expected them to make the playoffs at the start of the season.

“I’m proud of every single guy in this locker room,” forward Wayne Simmonds said. “They pushed it to the limit.”

Outstanding rookie Shayne Gostisbehere sees it the same way.

“We belong here,” Gostisbehere said, via CSN Philly. “I think we showed some people that, yeah, we went down 3-0 but we jumped back with two straight wins. We know we’re a good team and we’re building on it for next year.”
