Pittsburgh got in on the undrafted college free agent game on Tuesday, agreeing to terms with St. Cloud State defenseman Ethan Prow, per the Post-Gazette.
It’s a two-year deal for Prow, who will immediately join Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and play on an amateur tryout contract.
Prow, 23, was the leading defenseman scorer in collegiate hockey this season, with eight goals and 38 points in 37 games. He was also a top-10 Hobey Baker finalist and, over his four years at St. Cloud, developed a reputation as a heady, puck-moving blueliner with good offensive abilities.
Prow also served as the Huskies’ captain.
Though undersized -- listed at just 5-foot-11, 185 pounds -- it’ll be interesting to see how he fits within the Pens organization. The Tribune-Review has already gone so far as to call Prow “the team’s best defensive prospect not in the NHL.”
