Nail Yakupov asked the Edmonton Oilers to ship him to another team, according to Sports-Express reporter Igor Eronko. The reporter tweeted a quote from Yakupov where the Oilers forward said eight teams were interested in acquiring him, but “something went wrong.”

The 22-year-old is having a miserable season. The former first overall pick has six goals and 19 points in 56 games this season.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman shed a little more light on the situation between Yakupov and the Oilers.

It’s interesting to note that despite being frustrated with his situation in Edmonton, he’s not interested in returning to the KHL.

Yakupov ranks 10th among Oilers’ forwards when it comes to average time on ice. He averages 14:16 per game.
