The Dallas Stars got some bad news earlier this week when they found out Tyler Seguin suffered a partial cut of his Achilles tendon. He’s expected to miss 3-4 weeks of action which means that he’d be back sometime between Apr. 7-14.
If you’re a fan of the Dallas Stars and you’re concerned about Seguin’s availability for Game 1 of the playoffs, don’t be. On Saturday, Seguin told reporters he isn’t expecting to miss any playoff games because of this injury.
“We haven’t talked about goals much, but I can’t really picture myself missing Game 1,” Seguin said, per the Morning News. “If I can come back for the last game of the regular season, that would be quite the goal for me. But there’s a long way to go before then, so I’m looking forward to getting better.”
The Stars aren’t in danger of missing the playoffs, but Seguin’s absence could potentially cost them home ice advantage if they can’t find a way to win without him. The top three teams in the Central Division (Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago) have all played 72 games this season, and the Stars are two points ahead of the Blues and three points ahead of the Blackhawks.
Seguin suffered the injury with seconds remaining in Thursday’s game when Lightning defenseman Anton Starlman’s skate blade sliced the back of Seguin’s skate.
“I knew what happened right away,” he said. “Once I saw the blood on my hand, I got a little worried. When I got off the ice and got my skate off, then I got pretty worried. I’ve seen a lot of horror movies with Achilles tendons, so my mind was racing.”
