The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs are going in very different directions heading into Sunday’s battle at the Joe.

The Red Wings will look to get two points so they can jump back into the first Wild Card spot in the East. They’re currently tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but the Pens have two more regulation/overtime victories.

As for the Leafs, they’re currently in the basement of the NHL standings by a wide margin. Toronto is six points clear of the Oilers, who are currently 29th. The Maple Leafs have four games in hand, but if they keep winning at this pace they should continue to have the best odds of landing prized prospect Auston Matthews.

This is Mike Babcock’s second game in Detroit since he left the organization over the summer. The Wings won that first meeting by a score of 4-0.
