The Edmonton Oilers signed forward Jere Sallinen (left) to a one-year entry-level contract on Sunday.
The 25-year-old was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, but he never came over to North America before now.
Sallinen spent the majority of his professional career playing in the Finnish league, but he’s also spent a year in Sweden and the last two seasons with Jokerit Helsinki in the KHL. He had eight goals, 19 points and 79 penalty minutes in 2015-16.
He also won a silver medal with the Finnish national team at the 2014 World Hockey Championships in Belarus.
