New York, New York: Islanders and Rangers combine to score 10 goals, but Clutterbuck has the last laugh

The New York Rangers and New York Islanders combined to score a whopping seven goals in the opening frame of Sunday’s tilt which the Isles won 6-4.

Johnny Boychuk, Brock Nelson and Kyle Okposo scored in the opening 4:45 of the game.

The Rangers responded by scoring two goals in 38 secconds to cut the lead to 3-2 before Boychuk scored his second of the game. Eric Staal brought the Rangers to within a goal heading into the first intermission. The goal was Staal’s first as a Ranger.

Somehow, neither team scored in the second period.

In the third, Derick Brassard completed the comeback by tying the game at four.

With under two minutes remaining in the game, the Islanders got the game-winning goal from forward Cal Clutterbuck.

The Islanders trail the Rangers by three points in the Metropolitan division, but the Isles have three games in hand.
