Despite the absence of Henrik Sedin for the final two periods, the Vancouver Canucks scored a 4-2 road victory over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
It was on the power play where the Canucks did most of their damage, as they snapped a three-game losing streak.
The Canucks struck three times in seven power play opportunities, with Linden Vey, Daniel Sedin and Dan Hamhuis -- the first of the season for the veteran defenseman -- all scoring with the advantage to spoil James Reimer’s debut with San Jose.
The Sharks missed an opportunity to get back within four points of the Anaheim Ducks in the race for the Pacific Division.
Entering Saturday’s game, the Canucks had been woeful on the power play away from Rogers Arena, operating at 12.9 per cent on the road. Only three other teams have been worse on the power play while on the road this season.
After taking a heavy hit along the boards from Brent Burns, Canucks’ captain Henrik Sedin left the game late in the first period with an upper-body injury. He didn’t return.
Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev also didn’t play the remaining 12:43 of the third period.
Coach Desjardins had no update on the injuries to either Henrik Sedin or Chris Tanev, but doesn't expect Henrik available Monday in L.A.
