With Schneider out on Sunday, Devils recall Danis from minors

The New Jersey will be without starting goaltender Cory Schneider in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Schneider was injured after jamming his skate against the post while making a save on Stars forward Jason Spezza. The Devils don’t know how long he’ll be out, but we know it’ll be at least one game.

The Devils are a long-shot to make the playoffs at this point, but the only reason they’ve been in the race all season is because of Schneider’s play between the pipes. The 29-year-old is sixth in save percentage (.923) among goalies who have started 30 games or more and fifth overall in goals-against-average average (2.17).

On Saturday morning, New Jersey recalled Yann Danis from their AHL affiliate in Albany. The 34-year-old has 53 games of NHL experience under his belt. He hasn’t suited up in an NHL game since the 2012-13 season when he was a member of the Edmonton Oilers.

Keith Kinkaid is expected to get the brunt of the work while Schneider is on the shelf.
