The Ottawa Senators and New York Islanders waited until the last minute to make their first trade of the day.
Ottawa shipped forward Shane Prince and a seventh-round pick in 2017 to New York for a third-round pick in 2016.
The 23-year-old has three goals and 12 points in 42 games this season, but he’s been a healthy scratch in six straight games.
Prince was Ottawa’s second-round pick, 61st overall, in 2011.
The Islanders were reportedly interested in Toronto’s P.A. Parenteau. Unfortunately, the price tag seemed to be a little too high. According to TSN’s Gary Lawless, the Maple Leafs were asking for a second-round pick in 2017. GM Garth Snow obviously preferred giving up a third-round pick this year for a player who is younger than Parenteau and under team control beyond this season.
The trade leaves the Islanders with no picks in the second and third rounds of this summer’s NHL Entry Draft.
