Trade deadline week is uncomfortable for many players in the NHL and it’s no different for Sabres goalie Chad Johnson.

Johnson turned in a great performance against the San Jose Sharks on Friday night, but he knew it could be his last game as a member of the Buffalo Sabres.

“It’s an uneasy sort of time right now,” Johnson said after the game, per the Buffalo News. “You kind of just want to get it over with, to be honest. It’s just a weird week. I just want to get it over with.”

Coach Dan Bylsma added:

“It was a bit of a bounceback game for him dealing with the first shot going in. Turns out to be a real strong performance ... I hope it’s not his last for us.”

Earlier this morning, the Blues acquired goaltender Anders Nilsson from Edmonton which means that there’s one less team that needs a backup goalie.

But the Sabres, who are all but out of the playoff picture, would be foolish to lose Johnson for nothing in free agency.

They may not fetch more than a mid-to-late round pick for him, but adding a draft pick is nothing to scoff at.

We’ll see if he’s shipped out of town before Monday’s trade deadline.
