Caps place Brooks Laich on waivers; Coyotes claim Jiri Sekac

A lot of activity on the waiver wire on Saturday.

The Washington Capitals have placed veteran Brooks Laich on waivers.

The 32-year-old has been with the Capitals since 2003-04 and has had some productive seasons, but those days appear to be long gone.

Laich has just one goal and seven points in 59 games this season.

He has one year remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $4.5 million which makes anyone else claiming him extremely unlikely.

Should the Caps decide to send him to the minors, they’d save $950,000 on the cap.

Max Talbot (Bruins) and Chris Porter (Wild) were also placed on waivers by their respective teams.

With Mikkel Boedker likely on his way out of Arizona, the Coyotes claimed forward Jiri Sekac on waivers from the ‘Hawks.

Sekac has an intriguing combination of size and skill, but he’s been unable to put it all together since coming to the NHL last season.

This will be his fourth stop (Montreal, Anaheim, Chicago, Arizona) in less than two seasons.

The 23-year-old has one goal and four points in 28 games in 2015-16.
